ContactsTap version 5.0 will be available soon

This release will introduce some new features.

Most importantly, it will fully support groups for Exchange account. This means all users who use Exchange account to sync their contacts from now on will be able to organize them into groups. This was not available before as iPhone and Exchange account did not support groups. In fact, they still do not support them; however, ContactsTap 5.0 will add a feature which will allow you to create groups and organize your contacts with groups on Exchange account. Groups will not be synced to/from Exchange account as it still does not support groups in syncing (only contacts). This means that ContactsTap will save groups and their relationships with contacts on your Exchange account locally in its own database. Managing groups on Exchange account is totally transparent and you will not notice any difference in managing them in comparison to groups based on other accounts (Mobile Me, local account).

This release will be available soon.

ContactsTap Version 4.4 has been approved

The latest update, ContactsTap version 4.4, is now available to download from the App store.

From this release on, we only support iOS 4.x.

New features:
– Full support for multiple sync sources.
– In Organise and Delete mode there is option to select all / deselect all contacts
– If your current group is from Exchange source then the option to Edit groups will be disabled because Exchange does not support groups
– If your current group is from Exchange source then the Organise and Bookmark modes will be disabled because Exchange does not support groups
– if Local or MobileMe sources are not defined on your device then the Add Groups button is disabled on Groups list screen, because the device does not have a source which supports groups
– If your current group is from Exchange source then the Groups option on the action menu and contacts details screen will be disabled because Exchange does not support groups
– If you are adding a contact, and your current group is a Virtual group, then contacts will be added to your device’s default source account.
– If All Contacts For All Sources is active, then the Organise, Bookmark and Groups modes for contacts will be disabled, because we cannot mix contacts from different sources into a single group.

Fixes:
– In Organise mode the groups offered to you for group operations (Move, Copy, etc.) are only those from within the same sync source (MobileMe or computer/laptop) as the group that you are currently organising.
– Map View has been fixed
– Group action for All Contacts has been fixed
– Cancelling contacts Edit process has been fixed

ContactsTap Release 4.2 Available Soon

newThe next update, ContactsTap version 4.2 will be available in a few days. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded, rated and reviewed Version 4.1, I have taken all your suggestions into consideration while preparing Version 4.2.

Due to a bug that appeared in iPhone OS 4.1, the Related Names are no longer shown in Contacts details screen like they used to be in all previous ContactsTap releases. This bug even made ContactsTap 4.0 crash whenever the users tried to view contacts details. I have reported this issue to the Apple team and they have admitted this bug and promised to fix it in next 4.2 release of iPhone OS. Because of that, I had to do a temporary workaround for the Related Names feature to make it available in ContactsTap 4.2. It will add one icon to the contacts details toolbar screen where you will be able to see and add/modify your related names along with adding your custom labels. This solution will stay in the ContactsTap until Apple solve the problems with related names.
This release also dramatically lowered the application footprint and improved the memory full events handling. Application now works nicer with the rest of the system and especially in low-memory conditions.
From now on, our users can also make Skype calls directly from ContactsTap. You need to activate the new “enable Skype calls” option and then, whenever you tap on any phone number in ContactsTap, it will ask you if you want to place Skype or native mobile call. Choosing Skype will launch the Skype application with the selected number ready to be dialed.

Some of the new features in ContactsTap 4.2:

  • Enabling Skype calls
  • Managing Related Names for each contact
  • Seamless and transparent handling of all memory notifications
  • Support of loading contacts even if the application is in the background.

Fixes

  • Memory full problem.

We are currently preparing a video tutorial and a complete Help and FAQ files, which will be available soon both here on the website and on the app itself. We are also preparing a version in French, which will be available in a few weeks. For now you can use Application Release Notes option from settings to see the short description of new features.

ContactsTap Version 4.1 has been approved

ContactsTap release 4.1 has been approved and it is now available for download from the AppStore.

Bug Fixes
– If user tap on contact in main contacts list trying to edit its data or make a call app will crash or freeze. This happens only if device uses new iOS 4.1.
– When editing contacts data phonetic names were not properly prepared.

New features
– Memory full dialog has been removed and all memory issues are handled in background and transparent to user.
– If address book data change externally (by syncing the contacts while application is running) reload of contacts data will be done transparently to the user without showing Reload Contacts dialog.
– Main contacts list rows were revamped so more contact rows can feet in one screen.
– Groups view list has been revamped too. Now members count for each group is in separate row for each Group leaving more space for Group name.

Known issues
There has been a problem with related names on iOS 4.1 and ContactsTap release 4.1 were removed handling of related names temporarly until the next ContactsTap update 4.2. I had to do that as that was causing problems in ContactsTap release 4.0 and iOS4.1 on device. Apple has changed something in address-book starting from iOS4.1 so related names are not accessible in contacts meta-data like it used to be in all previous iPhone OS’s. Related names now on iOS 4.1 cannot be seen even in native Contacts application.
I have filed a bug to Apple so hopefully they will fix that soon, but until then I will implement a workaround for this and return the related names to platforms iPhone OS 3.x and iOS 4.0.x like it was before prior to iOS 4.1 fix and introduce one new option in contacts details screen where user will be able to show dialog with all related names defined for selected contacts and to edit them and add new one as well.
The fix for this problem will be available with ContactsTap update 4.2 which is in finishing phase.

Sneak peak to 4.2 release

  • New release 4.2 will have a lot of improvements. It will handle background events lot better, memory full case was yet improved and it will be totally transparent to user. Sync events handling were improved a lot (which application can receive if sync process kicks in while ContactsTap is working) and now it will update contacts correctly even if you are editing it. The application synchronise it self automatically with all new changes made by synchronisation process of device. User does not have to do anything in application as it works automatically and totally transparent to user.
  • Also I have added Skype calls in applications. User will be able to make Skype calls with ContactsTap.
  • ContactsTap Version 4.0 has been approved

    ContactsTap release 4.0 has been approved and it is now available for download from the AppStore.

    I am preparing release 4.1 which will introduce some new features and improve the existing ones.

    ContactsTap Version 4.0 Available Soon

    The next major update, ContactsTap version 4.0 will be available in a few days. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded, rated and reviewed Version 3.6, I have taken all your suggestions into consideration while preparing Version 4.0.

    Some of the major new features in ContactsTap 4.0:

    • Managing calendar events and alarms directly from the application
    • Fast contact groups manipulation directly from the main contact list
    • Search scope All now covers more contacts data in search then before. Fields contact address, url, birthday and anniversary, related names were added.
    • Toolbar was added to the main contact list which adds ability to organize contacts in groups directly on the main contacts list. Now there we can delete multiple contacts in one go, copy / move / remove multiple contacts in groups, create group from search result and add / modify calendar events with alarms.

    Fixes

    • Memory full problem. This was happening due to change in iOS4 which saves contact images in full size not cropped like it did before. Having a lot of images in a list with full size can occupy a lot of memory. Now application locates those images and scale them down to appropriate size preventing memory full dialog.

    We are currently preparing a video tutorial and a complete Help and FAQ files, which will be available soon both here on the website and on the app itself. We are also preparing a version in French, which will be available in a few weeks. For now you can use Application Release Notes option from settings to see the short description of new features.

    ContactsTap Version 3.5 Available Soon!

    Before explaining all the new features of the 3.5 version, I wish to apologise to all ContactsTap users who have had issues with the 3.4 release, and also to thank those users who were kind enough to describe these issues in detail. It really wasn’t my fault: after launching iPhone 4.0 Apple asked all developers to make their applications compatible with the new device. However they failed to update the documentation and explain some of the background changes in the system, so although I tried my best to keep the new release compatible with the 3.1 devices, some users were experiencing problems.

    Anyway I have investigated and fixed all the reported issues, and the new update 3.5 should be available for download very soon.

    Here’s the list of fixed issues in the 3.5 release:

    – The app crash when using ContactsTap on devices with 3.1.x iPhone OS.
    – The inability to create Groups when the device is synced with your Exchange account.
    – The problem with sorting contacts with non-Latin names when the phonetic sort option is enabled.
    – The issue when Cancel button is pressed on Contacts Detail screen.
    – The issue with adding/removing groups from Contact (when none of the assign groups can be seen in the list as highlighted text).
    – As for showing address in map view when the connection is bad (so it takes forever to load the map). I have now limited it to 30 sec or the request will be invalidated.

    I have also introduced some new features:

    – In address map view we now have a button ‘Current Location’ which shows the user’s current location on the map.
    – Sending text message to the group members (sending SMS to multiple contacts). Available only with iOS4.
    – Sending text message to the selected contacts (sending SMS to multiple contacts selected from the list of all contacts). Available only with iOS4.
    – Sending email to contacts using all types of emails (work, home, other, …) from contacts.
    – Sending text message to contacts using all types of phone numbers (mobile, iPhone, home, …). Available only with iOS4.
    – The action button in Group view is used now for distribution lists for emails and SMS.
    – Accessory button in each group row ( small >) is used to show group action menu (thus simplifying previous group actions and managed groups feature).
    – iOS 4 multitasking compatible. Available only with iOS4.

    ContactsTap Version 3.0 Available Soon

    The next major update, ContactsTap version 3.0 will be available in a few days. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded, rated and reviewed Version 2.4, I have taken all your suggestions into consideration while preparing Version 3.0.

    Some of the major new features in ContactsTap 3.0, as requested by the users:
    – it allows the user to sync contacts in the background. When the syncing is completed, the application notifies the user and reloads the contacts data in real time;
    – it allows the user to select a contact while in the search mode (as in the native contacts app);
    – unless the app is in the search mode, pressing of the Search Text Box Clear button (the small grey X) will no longer activate the pop-up keyboard;
    – when a new contact is added, the list automatically scrolls down to the newly added contact;
    – Groups screen has been split in two Tabs: Native Groups (i.e. customisable groups) and Virtual Groups (i.e. the contacts are automatically filtered and sorted into groups such as: Companies, Birthdays, No Phone, No Company, No Birthday etc.);
    – Groups Menu has been enriched with two new options: Rename Group and Delete Group;
    – lots of new options have been added to the Settings menu

    1. the user can enable or disable phonetic names (for non-latin names). Disabling this option (if you don’t need it) speeds up the application;
    2. four types of Search are now available, three of which are predefined while the fourth is customisable. These are: a) full name, b) company name, c) custom (the user specifies search parameters) and d) all –> this is the slowest option and it includes parameters such as: full name, company name, department, job title, nickname, note, email, phone number. Search bar has also been enriched with Scope buttons;
    3. the user can now predefine the default action when tapping on the phone number on the Contact Details Screen. The Default Tap Action can be either “Make a call” or “Show Dialogue With Options”;
    4. the user who wishes to send an email to multiple users (for example using the options “Send To Group” or “Send To List”) can now specify whether to send them as To, Cc or Bcc;
    5. the Setting now includes a General section where the user can:

    a) choose between two different skins, Default Blue and Cool Black. 🙂
    b) read some Important Notes and Known Limitations
    c) report a problem (an issue, a bug, or a suggestion for improvement)
    d) write and submit a review

    We are currently preparing a video tutorial and a complete Help and FAQ files, which will be available soon both here on the website and on the app itself. We are also preparing a version in French, which will be available in a few weeks.
